Therapeutic Care

Our therapeutic model focuses on social and emotional development through daily routines that lower anxiety and lift confidence. Individual plans are informed by trauma-aware practice and, where needed, draw on speech and language therapy, psychology and occupational therapy to remove barriers to progress. Physical well-being matters too: movement, play and team building support regulation, while simple nutrition and sleep routines help bodies and minds stay balanced. Nature is a core ingredient: regular forest-school style sessions and days on a care farm offer hands-on, practical learning that builds resilience and a sense of capability. We hold ourselves to high standards aligned with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated quality standards, with ongoing monitoring and review to keep practice strong.

Outdoor Learning

Children thrive when learning is hands-on, active and connected to the outdoors. At Dharma Homes, weekly woodland sessions introduce child-led activities like shelter-building, simple tool use, fire craft and nature exploration, which develop teamwork, resilience and perseverance over repeated sessions. We also arrange regular days on a local care farm so children can care for animals, grow food and take on real responsibilities that build confidence and self-regulation. These activities are more than “nice to have”. UK outdoor-learning guidance highlights how forest-school style programmes build social skills, independence and concentration, and providers across the country use similar approaches to support behaviour and emotional intelligence. We tailor sessions to each child’s needs and celebrate progress, however small, in ways they can see and feel. This approach enables children to engage meaningfully in learning and build resilience.

Wellbeing, Health & Emotional Support

At Dharma Homes, we believe that genuine care starts with nurturing the whole person. Our approach to wellbeing is holistic—rooted in the understanding that physical health, emotional balance, and social connection are all deeply intertwined. We promote healthy living through regular physical activity, nutritious home-cooked meals, consistent sleep, and calm, restorative routines that create a sense of safety and stability.
Equally important is emotional and psychological wellbeing. Our teams build trusting relationships with each young person, offering a secure base from which they can express themselves, process their experiences, and learn healthy ways to regulate their emotions. We work closely with therapists, health professionals, and external agencies to ensure every child receives the individualised support they need—whether that’s therapy, medical care, or help developing coping skills.
